Country FAQ

How much does GeraSkills charge UK creators?

GeraSkills charges a 10 percent platform fee on every successful transaction (5 percent for creators on Gera Prime). Stripe UK processing fees (typically 1.5 percent + 20p for UK cards) are additional and shown transparently at payout. There is no monthly subscription, no listing fee, and no charge for unsold sessions. The price you set is what the client pays; the platform fee and Stripe processing are deducted before payout, with a full itemised statement in your Stripe Connect dashboard.

When and how do I get paid as a UK creator?

Payouts are made via Stripe Connect to a UK bank account (personal or business) on a rolling 7-day schedule by default: funds from a transaction become available 7 days after the session is completed or the digital product is delivered (or, for refundable sessions, after the cancellation window closes). You can switch to weekly or monthly payouts in your Stripe dashboard. Newly onboarded creators have a 14-day initial hold while Stripe verifies identity and bank details under UK Money Laundering Regulations 2017.

Do I need to register as self-employed with HMRC?

Yes, if your gross GeraSkills income (plus any other self-employed income) exceeds GBP 1,000 in a UK tax year (the trading allowance), you must register as self-employed with HMRC and file a Self Assessment return. Below GBP 1,000, the trading allowance covers you without registration. Above the VAT threshold (currently GBP 90,000 in any rolling 12-month period), you must additionally register for VAT. GeraSkills is required to report your annual platform income to HMRC under the Platform Operators (Due Diligence and Reporting Requirements) Regulations 2023; you receive a copy each January.

What consumer-rights protection do UK clients have?

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, services must be performed with reasonable care and skill, in a reasonable time, at the agreed price. If a session is materially below the advertised quality or specification, the client has a right to repeat performance or price reduction. Digital products (templates, recorded courses, written reports) must also be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and as described. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cancellation right for online purchases unless the client has expressly consented to immediate delivery and waived the right (which is the case for most live sessions booked within 14 days).

Are GeraSkills creators vetted?

Creators complete a baseline identity and right-to-work check before they can list. Creators who hold a verified Gera Services Passport have additionally verified relevant trade or professional credentials (where applicable) and disclosed insurance. The Passport status is shown on each profile; if it is not shown, the creator is baseline-checked only. GeraSkills does not perform Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks; clients should not treat a GeraSkills creator as a regulated childcare or healthcare provider. For regulated work (counselling, mental-health advice, medical advice), the creator profile must state the relevant body registration (BACP, UKCP, GMC, etc.) and clients should verify it directly.

How are refunds and disputes handled?

If a client raises a dispute within 14 days of a session or product delivery, GeraSkills mediates between client and creator: we request evidence (recording where consented, written brief, communications) and propose a resolution within 5 working days. For Passport creators and eligible transactions, a limited service guarantee may apply (refund up to the per-category limit). If mediation fails, the client retains all statutory rights: small-claims court for amounts under GBP 10,000 in England and Wales (under GBP 5,000 simple procedure in Scotland), and credit-card protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 for relevant payments.

How is GeraSkills different from Patreon or Substack for UK creators?

Patreon and Substack are primarily subscription-content platforms (recurring monthly support for ongoing content). GeraSkills is built for direct service delivery: 1-to-1 sessions, packaged services, and time-bound deliverables, with integrated scheduling, video, and dispute mediation. Payouts are in GBP to a UK bank without currency conversion, and the platform handles HMRC reporting natively under UK rules. GeraSkills does also support recurring membership pricing for creators who want it, but the core focus is transactional service delivery in GBP, with clearer UK consumer-rights protection than US-based platforms.

What happens to my client data and how is GDPR handled?

Under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, GeraSkills is the controller for platform-level data (account, payment, marketing communications). For booking-specific personal data shared between you and your client (intake forms, session notes, custom files), you and the client are joint controllers; you must have your own UK GDPR-compliant privacy notice for that data and respond to subject-access requests within one month. GeraSkills provides a template privacy notice in the Creator dashboard; we are not a substitute for your own legal compliance. Contact dpo@gera.services for data-protection queries.
